Prenatal & Postpartum Therapy
IN DURHAM REGION AND SURROUNDING AREAS
Getting support, taking space for yourself, or just admitting it’s hard can be part of what keeps going. You matter in this too.
At Evergreen Counselling Collective, we recognize that the perinatal period — from pregnancy through the first months and years after birth — can bring profound emotional, physical, and identity changes. While this stage is often described as joyful, many expecting and new parents quietly experience anxiety, overwhelm, low mood, intrusive thoughts, or a sense of disconnection that can feel confusing or isolating.
Perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (PMADs) are among the most common complications related to childbearing, yet they are often under-recognized and under-supported. These experiences can occur during pregnancy and up to 18 months postpartum, and may include prenatal or postpartum depression, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive symptoms, trauma related to birth experiences, bipolar-related mood changes, or postpartum psychosis.
We understand that this time of life is filled with information, opinions, expectations, and pressure — which can make it difficult to tune into your own needs and instincts. Our therapists offer a supportive space to help you quiet the external noise and reconnect with yourself, your values, and your inner voice.
Using evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), narrative therapy, and other supportive modalities, we help clients process the wide range of emotions that can arise during pregnancy and postpartum life. Therapy can also support you in exploring birth experiences, adjusting to identity shifts, navigating relationships, setting boundaries, and coping with the emotional and physical demands of new parenthood.
Having consistent support during this time can make a meaningful difference. You do not have to navigate pregnancy or postpartum life alone — support is available, and healing is possible.
