Dialectical Behaviour Therapy
“You can’t control your emotions, but you can learn to respond to them skillfully.”
— Marsha M. Linehan

Life can feel full of ups and downs, and at times those shifts can leave us feeling overwhelmed, stuck in unhelpful patterns, or unsure how to cope with intense emotions. Seeking support is a meaningful and courageous step, and at Evergreen Counselling Collective, we’re here to walk alongside you through those challenges.
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), developed by Dr. Marsha M. Linehan, is a structured, skills-based approach that combines cognitive-behavioural strategies with mindfulness practices. It focuses on building practical tools for emotional regulation, distress tolerance, mindfulness, and interpersonal effectiveness, helping you respond to life’s difficulties with greater stability and intention.
In sessions, you’ll work collaboratively with a therapist in a supportive environment to learn and apply DBT skills that fit your needs and goals. DBT can be helpful for a range of concerns, including mood and anxiety disorders, PTSD, eating disorders, substance use, self-harm, and impulsive behaviours, as well as challenges with emotional intensity and relationships.
At Evergreen Counselling Collective, we offer both in-person and virtual DBT support, providing flexible options to access care in a way that works for you. Whether you’re looking to better understand your emotions, improve relationships, or build healthier coping strategies, DBT offers practical tools to help you move toward a more grounded and empowered life.
