Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is characterized by intrusive thoughts, images, or urges that feel distressing and difficult to manage. In response to these obsessions, individuals often engage in compulsive behaviours—such as checking locks repeatedly, counting, seeking reassurance, or excessive cleaning or handwashing—in an attempt to reduce anxiety or prevent feared outcomes.
These obsessions and compulsions can become highly disruptive, taking up significant time and energy and interfering with daily functioning, relationships, and overall wellbeing. In some cases, these patterns can feel exhausting and difficult to break, even when a person recognizes they are not aligned with their values or intentions.
At Evergreen Counselling Collective, we understand how challenging OCD can be, and we offer compassionate, evidence-based support. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), including Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), has been shown to be an effective approach for OCD. Whether or not you have a formal diagnosis, our CBT-trained clinicians can work with you to better understand your experience, reduce the impact of intrusive thoughts and compulsive cycles, and support you in building greater freedom and flexibility in your daily life.
